FACT offers an e-Service may be defined as a service provided over an electronic channel. Services provided over electronic channels can include banking, brokerage, insurance, shopping, flight reservation etc. e-Services use electronic transmission media such as the
Internet, cable networks or mobile phone networks for transmission of information.
A channel can be characterized by its typical end-device, transmission medium and the protocol used.
Examples of channels are:
- Internet (TCP/IP) with PC as end-device
- Short Message Service (SMS) for mobile phones
The idea behind e-Services is to enrich the traditional service
approach. For existing services like phone banking via call center
new distribution channels are added, for example the Internet or
mobile phone net. This advances the trend towards more
convenience and self-service
